To Facebook, or not to Facebook?

Raise your hand if you have a Facebook page!

I actually have 2, one for me, and one for Gracie’s Cove.  I am still very bad at updating them, but I’m working on it…

Facebook has had good press, and bad.  Personally, I like it!  It’s the easiest way I’ve found to keep up with family and friends.  Uploading pictures is simple.  Then everyone can see them right away.  It usually takes me months to get film developed, or to get the pics on my camera developed into actual pictures.  Dumping ‘select’ pics right onto my Facebook pages makes it super-easy to just get them out there.

I know they’ve had some security concerns.

Care always needs to be taken when you do ANYTHING on the internet, so be careful who you share information with.

That being said, ‘friend’ me when you get a chance!! ;)

Fargo Marathon

posted 24 May 2010 by Kerry Beckler — 0 comments

Saturday dawned cloudy and rainy.  But the excitement was felt by all of the participants.  The goal this year for the Marathon committee was to get 20,000 runners, counting everyone who was entered into any of the races (5k-10k-1/2-Full Marathon).  I haven't heard yet if they reached thier goal or not, but they had to be close!  The Fargodome was packed!

We got rained on for the first hour or so, but it cleared off after that.  I tried staying with a pace group this year for the first time.  Though I was unable to stick with them, I will train for that next time, I believe that would have been fun!

The beginning of the race (not considering the rain) was great!  I felt great, my pace was even, felt like I could have ran forever!  Then, at about Mile 6, I started to get tired.  I made the mistake of drinking Gatorade right after having a Goo packet.  I think I over-did the carbs.  That's never happened to me before, but it is something I'm going to remember for next time.  After that, I couldn't seem to drink enough water, but I felt sloshey.  Wierd... anyways.  Things went downhill after that.

Lessons learned!

Next 1/2 Marathon = Bismark in September!!!

Stomach Flu + Training for a Race that's a week away = Not Good

posted 15 May 2010 by Kerry Beckler — 0 comments

The training was going good and all, despite the rain putting a ‘damper’ on things. Then came the stomach flu (Dah, dah, dunnnnn…). Two days of laying on the sofa and running to the bathroom to pay homage to the Lavatory gods certainly slows down your training runs…. (hmmm… runs… yeah, I won’t go there).

But, back on track this weekend. Hoping to get in at least 6 miles today, and 8-10 tomorrow, then I think that’s as good as it’s going to get.

About the only positive think I can say about the stomach flu is that I DID at least lose a few pounds, not the way anyone wants to, but looking on the bright side of things…

7 more days!

Talk to you soon!

'Time flies' (when you're running your butt off)

Wow, where is the time going? Only 17 more days!
Training is still going okay, not getting in as many long runs as I should, but if I can do 2 more before the ½, I’ll be fine… I think…
I figured I’d concentrate on my 4-6 milers, and try to lose a few more pounds. Being a little bit lighter can’t hurt! I NEED to lose 20, but obviously my time frame isn’t going to allow that, so if I can get 5 off, I’ll be happy!

Talk to you soon, hope to see some of you in Fargo!

Countdown to Fargo

37 Days until the Fargo Marathon!
I’m only running the HALF marathon, but I’m still working hard to get my rear-end in shape! Literally…since I’ve managed to get pretty ‘fluffy’ this winter.
So, I’m building up my weekly mileage and working on some shorter-faster runs and watching what I’m eating and realizing that I should have been doing this WEEKS ago!!! (whine)
It’s my own fault, I got lazy, but I’ve made the decision that even if I have to walk part of it, I’m doing it anyway. For any one that hasn’t run an organized race, I strongly encourage you to do so! Even if you aren’t competitive, and have no plans of actually winning the race, it is such a rush!! People are cheering, and the volunteers they get for these races are amazing! (For any one who has ever volunteered at a race; a big THANK YOU!)

37 more days…
